Cleveland, OH — (March 4, 2021) —Octet Scientific has been selected to present its chemical additive technology to help enable safe, sustainable and economical zinc batteries to investors and industry representatives at the 2021 NREL Industry Growth Forum (IGF), to be held virtually on April 20-22, 2021. The IGF, celebrating its 26th anniversary, is hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). It is one of the nation’s premier events for cleantech entrepreneurs and other industry experts. Octet was selected from a field of more than 150 entrepreneurs following an extensive selection process.

Octet develops additive chemicals that enable new a type of safe, sustainable and economical battery based on zinc. Zinc batteries are water-based, recyclable and made from US materials, but without Octet’s additives they face stiff competition to unseat flammable, toxic and less sustainable alternatives already entrenched in the market.

“No technology offers the range of future-friendly features that zinc batteries do, but diversity has been hard to establish in the battery industry,” says Octet CEO Onas Bolton. “Presenting at the NREL Industrial Growth Forum will help us continue to raise awareness for zinc batteries and get the message out that with Octet additives zinc batteries are here and ready to compete!”

More than 600 cleantech investors, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives are expected to attend this year’s IGF. Among them will be 40 of the world’s most promising start-up companies, including Octet Scientific, that will be presenting their cleantech innovations to potential investors and industry experts. In addition, the companies will compete for the 2021 outstanding venture awards.

“We’re facing global pressures to reduce negative climate impacts and ensure clean water, clean air, and sustainable energy and food systems” said IGF Program Manager Sheila Ebbitt.  “We received applications from around the world and across technology sectors. It was a challenge for our investor selection committee to narrow the selection down to the top 40 startups.”
