We founded Octet with the mission to give aqueous batteries a quicker path to market – and to scale – with the help of key chemical additives. Thanks to the partnership of our clients, investors, and the broader battery community, we’re proud to say we’ve made major advances in seeing that vision take place in whole new ways in 2025.
Below, just a few of the developments we’re proud of from this year.
> 420 Additive Molecules
We now have over 420 unique additive molecules in the Octet catalog – up from 295 at the end of 2024 – plus two new patent applications and one patent award this year. Our new offerings include broad chemical families entirely new to the field that feature low or no hazards, high scalability, and excellent stability. Many of these new compounds were designed specifically to address gassing and corrosion and work agnostically across metal-based aqueous batteries.
> 75 Tests/Week
The Octet Additive Lab has significantly expanded our capabilities by more than doubling our number of testing methods for evaluating novel electrolyte additives. In 2025 our lab conducted over 4,000 unique additive tests (more than 75 per week) evaluating 200 unique new additive molecules!
Expedited Time to Integration
We have new operational approaches for testing, data transfer, and zeroing in on just the right formula – which, combined, have served to cut solution integration times in half.
- Rather than testing additives sequentially and relying on validation in customer cells , our new process gets ahead of the game to quickly down-select to a small number of additives sure to work in our customer’s system, saving them significant testing and integration time. The process change has been dramatic: for one client we were able to explore 100 additives candidates and deliver six high-performing candidates in just 6 months!
- We’re also now delivering bi-weekly reports analyzing test results from multiple angles in each molecule – delivering actionable data that helps make down-selection faster and chemical integration more effective. More data, deeper data, faster!
Serving the Full Spectrum of Aqueous Chemistries…
We were founded in 2016 with a focus on one set of aqueous chemistries specifically: Zinc. But over time, we’ve realized our processes and innovations work agnostically across aqueous battery types. That’s why we’re pleased to say that, in addition to our work with clients on zinc-based systems, we’ve done extensive work in 2025 servicing clients in the iron and lead space as well – with vanadium partnerships coming online soon.
…And Expanding Use Cases
As the need for aqueous energy storage grows, we’ve also been able to work with clients to support both LDES applications as well as new technologies specifically targeting the growing field of energy storage tech for data centers.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our investors, backers, and advisors – including through the $2.1 million in total investment from ICIG Ventures, BOLD Ventures, and private investors led by Brian Gale we closed in March, and the wise input of chemical innovator and investor Charles “Chuck” Paul, PhD, who joined our board early this year.
We’ve achieved so much this year, and we’re only getting started. We can’t wait to continue working with our customers to solve their electrolyte challenges, unlock critical new performance potential, and change the battery (and energy) world! Thank you again for a remarkable 2025 – and looking forward to an even more remarkable 2026. ⚡
