RFP: 1,500MW in Mid-Duration Storage
Massachusetts’s Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) and the state’s Department of Energy Resources (DOER) have launched an RFP for approximately 1,500MW of mid-duration energy storage systems. The initiative is the first in a staggered procurement schedule kicked off by a comprehensive 2024 energy bill that increased the state’s energy storage systems commitment to 5,000 MW by 2030. Details in Energy Storage News.
Report: 5GW in Storage Could Save $2.2B for Region
Per a report from the American Clean Power Association (ACP) and Aurora Energy Research, the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is projected to experience the highest percentage increase in peak load growth over the next decade among all Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) – reaching roughly 69GW by 2035.
The solution? The report advises that deploying approximately 5GW of energy storage between 2025 and 2035 could help ensure reliable power for the Southern and Central states and save the region more than $2.2 billion. Learn more in Energy Storage News.
