The Dutch SLDBatt project is bringing together a number of organizations to develop a new type of LDES to store renewable energy for 8 to 100 hours. Backed by over €30 million in funding from the Nationaal Groeifonds and the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RvO), members of the seven-org group include two aqueous players:
AQUABATTERY BV, which will develop a 50 kW saltwater acid-base power module prototype with 10 hours of storage duration.
Elestor BV, slated to install a 100 kW–1 MWh hydrogen–iron flow battery pilot.
Eos Energy Enterprises has announced the launch of a new architecture for zinc-based battery energy storage that targets a 1 GWh per acre density – roughly quadruple that of most other available technologies. Details in Energy News.
90% Energy Efficiency Zinc-Bromide
Offgrid Energy Labs has achieved a $15 million Series A, a 10 megawatt-hour plant in the UK, and 90% energy efficiency in field trials. Read a deep-dive on the India-based zinc bromine storage startup in MIT Sloan Management Review – India.
Watch: Specialized Separators for Aqueous Technologies
Daniel Fischer, Head of strategic Battery Separators business unit at Delfort Specialty Paper, explains how the company’s fiber-based separators are tackling aqueous battery developer challenges — including solutions for wet strength and wettability across acidic and alkaline electrolytes, and 200M+ square meters of annual production capacity.
