AI’s Aqueous Energy Storage Needs

From Latitude Media: How Fervo, Constellation, and Form Energy are racing to power AI — “Within two years, [Form Energy] went from trying to explain the value of attributes like reliability and round-the-clock availability to…fielding calls from utilities and developers who wanted gigawatts of capacity as fast as possible.”

Allegro for Data Centers

July 16th Issue

Australian-based Allegro Energy makes the case for the firm’s microemulsion flow battery (MeFB) as ideal for data center demands.

“The Allegro LDES flow batteries are designed to grow parallel to a data centre’s needs,” explains a deep dive in Energy Storage News. “This allows incremental investment and deployment, making this model ideal for both hyper-scale facilities and edge data centres.” Head here for details.

$1.62M Award to Supercharge Enzinc R&D

July 23rd Issue

Zinc anode manufacturer Enzinc has been selected for a $1.62 million award from the California Energy Commission. The award will be applied toward R&D to advance Enzinc’s electrode platform for high-power and long-duration energy storage needs. The milestone follows the firm’s recent $8M Series A.

Enzinc is collaborating on this project with multiple partners:

  • Octet Scientific will lead electrolyte development to enhance battery performance for grid-specific applications.
  • The Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) at UC Riverside for system-level design and testing for microgrid applications.
  • Factor will support project administration.
  • Through Community Resources for Science (CRS) and Richmond Promise, this project also helps develop the next generation of energy professionals.

RFP: 1,500MW in Mid-Duration Storage

August 20th Issue

Massachusetts’s Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) and the state’s Department of Energy Resources (DOER) have launched an RFP for approximately 1,500MW of mid-duration energy storage systems. The initiative is the first in a staggered procurement schedule kicked off by a comprehensive 2024 energy bill that increased the state’s energy storage systems commitment to 5,000 MW by 2030. Storion Lands Inaugural Customer

September 17th Issue

Storion Energy, the vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) joint venture of Stryten and Largo Clean Energy, has secured its first vanadium electrolyte customer.

Storion will provide 50MWh of vanadium electrolyte for a 9.6MW/48MWh VRFB installation in Bellville, Texas, in collaboration with vanadium supplier Largo Physical Vanadium and RFB manufacturer Terraflow Energy.

AquaBattery and Sciven to Partner on LDES

October 30th Issue

Saltwater-based flow battery firm AquaBattery has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for strategic collaboration with integrated sustainable tech solutions provider Sciven. The two firms will explore LDES pilot deployment opportunities, commercial and industrial use cases, and models for long-term partnership. Details in BEST.

Form Energy’s First Deployment

November 5th Issue

Iron-air juggernaut Form Energy has begun deploying its first commercial batteries. The 100-hour LDES applications will be installed at Great River Energy‘s multi-day storage project in Minnesota, which is expected to be fully operational next year. Eos Hits Top Quarterly Revenue To Date

November 13th Issue

Zinc-powered energy storage manufacturer Eos Energy Enterprises has announced Q2 2025 as its highest quarterly revenue so far. With nearly 1,000 MWh in recent secured deals across renewables and data infrastructure, Eos hit $30.5M this Q2 —nearly double its full earnings from 2024. Details in the announcement.

Zinc’s Unreasonable Impact

November 21st Issue

Venture fellowship Unreasonable Impact‘s cohort includes zinc-based energy storage leaders E-Zinc and ZincFive.
